Victoria is an amazing city to live in
Every neighbourhood has its own personality and aesthetics; from bohemian to sophisticated; to sophisticated bohemian! Something and someplace for everyone.
Choosing a home is one of the most exciting decisions you will make! It involves a series of decisions that will decide your present and your future. “Where will my children go to school?”, “or what gym or yoga studio is close to me?” “Do I want certain things within walking distance?” “Will we be close to public transit?” Before we even get out the door, let’s decide what is going to be important in the way we live our lives.
First of all, let’s talk about the time frame. Is this a home you will live in for the next five, ten, or twenty years? Are you going to school, starting a family, retiring, growing a family, or changing locations? The important idea is to plan for your lifestyle NOW and also what it might look like 5 or 10 years in the future. Will you be working at the same location? How much of a commute are you willing to make?
With that information in mind, start assessing neighbourhoods. Look for what might please you right now and what might attract you in future years. Keep a list of priorities and check them off as you narrow the field. Go “walk-about” as I like to call it! Take a potential neighbourhood for a test drive, preferably on a weekend, when people tend to be out and about. Check out the local amenities and the local community paper.
